23 new party minigames in one night: the full lineup
Party Night started life with eleven minigames: Floor Is Debt, Snack Attack, Hot Potato, Sweeper, Coin Rush, Meat Grinder, Chaos Rally, Instagib Arena, Crate Carnage, Snake Feast and Butcher Blitz. Eleven is a respectable number. It is also the number of games your friends have fully memorised by the third party night, which is exactly when they start winning and you start "having connection problems".
So overnight the arcade got bigger. 23 new minigames landed in one go, and Party Night now has 34.
How 23 new minigames fit into one night
The trick is boring, which is how you know it works. Every new minigame is a self-contained plugin: one file runs the game on the server, one file draws it in your browser. Drop both in and the game shows up everywhere at once: as a space on the party board, in quick play, in the host's playlist, and with its own touch controls for phones. No core rewrites, no "we'll add it to the board later".
Every game also gets a short goal that shows up big on the briefing screen, so nobody has to read a rulebook while the countdown runs. Those goals are in italics below.
Reflex and timing games
- Quick Draw: Shoot first on DRAW!, never before. Seven wild-west rounds, and fake-outs like "DRAB!" count as a misfire.
- Audit Light: Reach the Auditor. Freeze when he looks. He wobbles before he turns round. Anyone still moving on red is sent back a third of the track.
- Whack-an-Auditor: Bonk the auditors. Avoid the red bombs. Golden auditors are worth 3. Red ones with a lit fuse cost you a point and a stun.
- Musical Chairs: When the music stops, grab a chair. One chair fewer than players, and sitting too early is a false start.
- Tug of War: Pull on the beat. Drag the flag to your side. Two teams, one rope. Mashing off the beat is a weak tug that tires you out.
Chase, shove and brawl games
- Repo Men: Dodge the Repo Men, or join them and tag. Get tagged and you switch sides. Every catch makes the remaining Debtors a bit faster.
- Hat Snatch: Steal hats and keep the tallest stack. Every hat slows you down a little, and the last 10 seconds rain golden hats worth double.
- Balloon Brawl: Pop rivals' balloons. Keep yours. Three balloons each, dash to pop, and the ring closes in after 24 seconds.
- Sumo Shove: Shove everyone out of the ring. No weapons, a shrinking tile ring, and a shove you can charge up.
- Bumper Cars: Ram rivals out through the gaps. Side-on T-bones hit hardest, and the gaps in the rails get wider as the clock runs.
- Penthouse: Hold the zone alone to score. King of the hill in an office tower. Two people inside means nobody scores.
Projectile games
- Ricochet Tanks: Bank shots off walls to hit other tanks. Shells bounce twice before they fizzle, and a bounced shell will happily hit its own tank.
- Dodgeball: Hit rivals, catch throws, stay in. Time a catch just right and the thrower is out instead of you.
Sports games
- Party Football: Score more goals than the other team. Dribble, hold to charge a shot, and shoulder-charge anyone who gets ideas.
- Mini Golf Madness: Sink every hole in the fewest strokes. Two holes, everyone putts at the same time, and the balls knock each other around.
- Goalie Ring: Guard your goal. Last goalie standing wins. Let in three goals and yours gets bricked up.
- Fish Frenzy: Hook on the bite, reel in the biggest fish. Small fish score 1, big fish 3, the golden fish 6, and old boots a humbling 0.
Puzzle and perception games
- Odd One Out: Find the one that's different, first. A shade off, tilted, mirrored or missing a detail. Wrong picks stun you.
- Headcount: Count the right critters. Closest guess wins. A parade of interns, auditors, coins and pigeons runs past, and only some of them count.
- Money Laundering: Follow the coin. Stand on the right case. The shell game, with briefcases. Two wrong guesses and you are busted.
Board-style tile and territory games
- Pattern Panic: Stand on the called colour before the floor drops. Every other tile falls away. Watch out for NOT calls, switches and shuffles.
- Turf Paint: Paint the most floor in your colour. Splash-dash to paint wide streaks. The last 8 seconds bring mega brushes.
- Paper Trail: Don't hit any wall. Outlast everyone. You never stop riding, and you leave a paper wall behind you. Box people in.
Where the new games show up
- On the board. Minigame spaces are dealt from the host's playlist every board round, so the new games land on the board just like the originals. Everyone plays, and your placement earns party points.
- In quick play. All 34 games can be played on their own straight from the lobby.
- In the playlist presets. Hosts can leave everything on, pick Quick & silly, or pick No shooters, which drops the gun games (Ricochet Tanks included).
- On phones. Each game ships with its own touch layout and a one-line phone hint, so nobody has to squint at keyboard instructions.
- With ghosts. In most last-one-standing games, getting knocked out early no longer means sitting on your hands. You float back in as a ghost and lob tomatoes at the living. Tomatoes never kill and never score, but they are extremely satisfying.
The bots got the memo too. Tax Evasion, Overdraft, Late Fee, Landlord, The Auditor and Bad Credit all know how to play every new game, so an empty seat never stops a party.
